Have a go at Weaving - On a Rigid Heddle Loom

Weave a sample on a rigid heddle loom set up so the weft completely covers the warp. Interesting patterns can be formed by using two colours for the weft. You could also have a go at techniques that can be used on a frame to weave a picture.

Jim Birch will be telling us about the role foundries played in rural society, we'll discuss the metals and methods used and identify local examples. The presentation ends with a demonstration of mould making and metal casting.

The study of moths and bats is part of the Wild Wantage Project which was launched by Sustainable Wantage in 2020.
The talk will cover what moths and bats can tell us about the state of our local environment.
Key species and how to record them. Simple tips on garden design to help moths and bats.

Early Saxon activity at East Challow, near Wantage

by Matt Nichol, of Cotswold Archaeology

Excavations at East Challow uncovered an important multi-period site. It indicated an extensive early 6th-7th century Anglo-Saxon settlement. This comprises 16 sunken-featured buildings, pits and the remains of two possible timber halls, possibly forming part of a more extensive Anglo-Saxon settlement.

This new history of the Wantage Tramway, based upon the company archives, once thought lost, explores hoe the company was formed, tells the stories of some of the people who worked for the tramway. It also reveals for the first time the true reasons for its closure in 1946.
