Friends of VDM Talk - The Lost Manor House of the Fitzwaryns

    21st March 2024

Join the Friends of the Vale & Downland Museum and speaker Terry Randall for another fascinating talk

The Lost Manor House of the Fitzwaryns
Has the 15th century manor house of the Fitzwaryn family been found?
Terry Randall a local physics teacher set about restoring a grade II listed former pub in Wantage and found the building was based on an historic 15th century cruck frame construction.
Careful restoration , research and analysis has led to a convincing case for this house to be part of a building from the right period. It is also located near the proposed site of King Alfred’s birthplace and even a Roman coin dated AD290 was found beneath the floor.
Many people look for properties with character and a story when moving house. This one has it all.

    Tickets:
Members of the Friends £5 each (requires a password)
    Visitors £7 each

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
